Everything between now and September 2027, in order. We’ll confirm exact transition day dates with your primary school as soon as they’re set by the Local Authority.

Apply through Hartlepool Borough Council. We're happy to talk this through beforehand.
National Offer Day
You'll receive your secondary school place offer from Hartlepool Borough Council. If St Hild's been offered, we'll be in touch to welcome you before the summer term.

Of course! We organise lots of extra tours. Get in touch with us and we will organise this with you.
CAN WE MEET THE TEACHERS BEFORE WE START?
Yes! You will meet lots of teachers at our events including Year 5 Transition events, Year 6 Parents Evening, Transition Week and Summer School.
WHAT DO THE SETS MEAN? HOW ARE THEY WORKED OUT?
We ensure that your classes at St Hild’s in Year 7 are best matched to your ability and needs. We check your progress regularly and make sure you get any support that you need.
HOW MANY CLASSES ARE THERE PER DAY?
You will have 5 lessons a day, plus tutor time every morning. There are also opportunities for lunchtime and afterschool enrichments.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT CLASS TO GO TO?
You have an individual timetable which tells you exactly where you need to be every hour of every day. If you need support with this, there are lots of staff available to help.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T GET TO CLASS ON TIME?
You are given 5 minutes to get around the building safely and from lesson to lesson. If you are late as a one off, the teacher will take this into consideration. However, persistent lateness does have consequences!
DO YOU STILL GET HELP IF YOU ARE STUCK?
Of course, getting ‘stuck’ is a great way to learn. Your teachers will support you in lessons and make sure that if you need help, you get what you need.
HOW MANY SUBJECTS AND TEACHERS WILL WE HAVE?
You will study 14 different subjects and have a different teacher for each.
WHAT IS THE HOMEWORK LIKE? WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS?
You will have homework in every subject. In Year 7, we have project homeworks that allow students to develop skills in every subject. For example, Castle making in History!
WILL THE TEACHERS SHOUT?
We are a relational school and therefore staff do not shout. We prioritise building relationships with all students.
WILL I HAVE SOME FRIENDS IN MY TUTOR / FORM?
Before you join us, we ask your primary school teachers for information about who you would like to be with in your tutor groups. We use this information to make the class lists.
WHAT DO I DO IF I HATE SCHOOL?
We will do everything we can to support you and want you to enjoy school. If this is not the case, speak to a member of staff – your tutor, your teachers, your Head of Year or any member of the Senior Leadership Team!
WILL WE GET A BUDDY FROM AN OLDER YEAR GROUP?
Our Junior Leadership Team are the key links for your transition. They are available throughout the whole process and can answer any questions you have.
WHAT DO I DO IF I GET BULLIED?
We take bullying very seriously at St Hild’s. Report it to a member of staff immediately and they will act quickly to support you.
I DON’T LIKE EATING IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLE. IS THERE SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO?
Yes – we have a designated area for a quieter lunch in our Chapel. We also have our Bridge area for students who need this additional support.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS AND RULES AT BREAK AND LUNCH?
All students can access the canteen at break and lunch. There are lots of different food available every day. Year 7 have their own designated play area on our Tennis Courts for both break and lunch times.
WHAT HAPPENS FOR PEOPLE WITH DIETARY REQUIREMENTS?
The canteen staff are made aware of this immediately and your profile shows the relevant staff what your dietary needs are. All foods are labelled and easy to choose from.
WHAT AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS ARE AN OPTION?
We have over 40 clubs available during lunchtime and after-school. We have choir and performing arts club and lots of sports clubs which run every day after-school!
